Lovely spot for a walk through woodland and along the river. Also ideal for a bit of plane spotting from Liverpool! Popular with dog walkers Nice cafe near the car park and two pubs serving food.

Very nice woodland with large numbers of birds.Only issue -vehicles parked by roadside leading to car park where you have to pay.Hardly any cars in there...most on road making approach to car park difficult.

Bear pit was shut and locked so we had nowhere to put the children when we went to the pub. Health and safety gone mad?

A lovely woodland walk with plenty of different routes, set on the river Mersey, great views over to Liverpool. Two great pubs, both dog friendly, and also a separate cafe. Originally, the Woods was a setting for zoological gardens with the original Bear Pit still a feature.

I love bringing my dogs here, the wide open spaces allows for them to socialise safely with other dogs and people. They love running down the mud paths and through the trees. But their favourite area is the bear pit. I remember coming here as a kid to see the bear pit, it’s definitely worth a visit. This is still there which is amazing too, when we last went there were loads of wooden forts built too.
